Canada landed 35,000 Immigrants in January 2022

New IRCC data show Canada is off to a strong start to the year.

According to new IRCC data, Canada welcomed 35,260 new permanent residents in January 2022.

Information collected from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), showed Canada has begun its second consecutive year with over 400,000 new immigrants.

The new Immigration Levels Plan 2022-2024, unveiled last month, calls for nearly 432,000 new immigrants to arrive this year, a record number. Canada welcomed over 405,000 immigrants last year, primarily by granting permanent residency to those living in the country. 400,000 immigrants arrived in Canada in 2014, a record number for the country since 1913.

A record 65 per cent of new permanent residents came from the economic class in January, higher than the 56 per cent targeted under the levels plan. 15 percent of landings were of the refugee and humanitarian class, which is below the 20 percent goal for this year.
